2023 undergrad, cadet & grad conference

On the 5th and 6th of October, our undergraduates, cadets, and graduates from environmental, mechanical, survey and mining disciplines came together for the annual Grad Workshop. This two-day workshop created an opportunity for our team to connect, share insights, and collaborate with the BUMA Australia management team.

Conference

Over the duration of the workshop, each team member was given the opportunity to present a chosen topic to their peers. This year saw several excellent presentations, including a case study on Meandu’s Acid Mine Drainage, a recap of mining from project start to the present at Burton, and an explanation of how the survey team error-checks and ensures the accuracy of surface scans. Having a mix of environmental, mining, survey, and mechanical disciplines means that each discipline is exposed to other parts of the business, enriching their knowledge.

Joining the grads, several of BUMA’s leadership team presented on a range of topics important to our business. This included presentations around BUMA’s future growth, rehabilitation, tendering, and more. The leadership team’s continued support of the graduate workshop has been crucial in fostering relationships and the development of our future talent.

To close off the workshop, our team travelled to the Belmont shooting range where they competed in a skeet shooting competition. This highly anticipated event saw Mechanical Graduate Tom Woodward secure victory with an exceptional 19/25 targets, blowing away the rest of the competitors.
