Our executive leadership team has the experience and stability to deliver our client’s requirements in alignment with our core values. The executive team reports to the BUMA Australia board headed by Ronald Sutardja.

 

Colin Gilligan

Colin is a mining engineer who has 30 years of experience in the resources sector.  His career has spanned all the major mining jurisdictions in the world – Asia, Africa, North America, Europe and Australia. He has developed, built and operated mining projects in many commodities including gold, copper, tantalite, lithium, mineral sands, graphite and coal. He has held many operational, technical, executive and director roles throughout his career, as an owner and as a mining services provider in private and public companies.

At BUMA, his experience in organisational leadership, project development and delivery, predominantly achieved through a focus on people, culture and striving for optimal efficiency is helping to establish the company as a prominent participant in the Australian mining industry. He also contributes significant board-level experience particularly on operational and technical matters, governance, funding, risk management and strategy.

Russell Taylor

Russell is an accomplished mining executive with over 25 years of experience in the resources industry. He has held leadership positions in major global resource companies and with international mining contractors. Throughout his career, Russell has gained expertise in various mineral commodities including mineral sands, copper, gold, lead, zinc, iron ore, lithium and coal.

Russell has led international teams responsible for commissioning open-cut mines and infrastructure to meet world-class standards. He has successfully overseen the development and expansion of metalliferous and coal projects throughout Australia, Mongolia and India. Additionally, Russell has a proven record of leading Operational Rescue Projects, successfully turning around underperforming mines with negative margins.

Kate Van Kempen

Kate is a seasoned People & Culture professional with over 16 years’ experience finding best-for-business solutions for stakeholders. She has senior leadership experience across a range of commodities, including coal, gold, iron ore and copper.

Kate prides herself on her ability to harness the strengths and capabilities of teams to overcome complex challenges. She believes real value can be added to any organisation by proactive HR partnership which is backed by comprehensive data analytics.

Kate has led multi-disciplined teams inclusive of training & development, talent acquisition, employment relations, data & reporting specialists, community, diversity & inclusion advisors and HR operations and has been responsible for creating and executing People & Culture strategy for large business units.

Ngaire Tranter

Ngaire is a experienced environmental professional who brings over 16 years of expertise in environmental management, resource development, and sustainability in the resources sector in Australia.  Her expertise spans over diverse commodities and project types.

Ngaire is dedicated to advancing environmental and social performance and responsibility, she excels in implementing sustainable practices across mining activities and projects.

Ngaire’s responsibility includes ensuring that Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations are firmly embedded in our decision-making processes across every aspect of our business. Her role includes delivering practical and sustainable outcomes that strike a balance between the environmental, social, and economic requirements of our stakeholders and communities.

Ian Briggs

Ian is a highly experienced lawyer with a career spanning over 30 years, encompassing both private practice and corporate legal roles. He has worked in various locations, including Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin, and Hong Kong.

For 17 years, Ian served as a partner at a prominent Australian law firm. Over the past 9 years, he has been leading corporate legal teams, focusing on projects, compliance, audit, risk review, commercial matters and ethical considerations within the resources industry.

Ian has served on various boards during his career, providing advice on strategic matters and the overall governance and direction of organisations.

Barry Mckeown

Barry is an experienced Mining, Maintenance and Engineering Management professional with over 30 years’ in the resources sector in Australia and Africa. His expertise extends to various commodities, including copper, gold, platinum, nickel, and coal.

Throughout his career, Barry has held leadership and operational positions with owner miners, contract miners and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). He has gained extensive experience across all aspects of mining, including civil infrastructure, plant and equipment management, and operational management.

Barry firmly believes that the well-being and safety of personnel, as well as the sustainability of projects, are pivotal to achieving operational success. He is dedicated to building upon the organisation’s existing strong safety record and enhancing its rehabilitation capabilities.
