Celebrating safety: Scott Anderson’s award-winning achievement
Shout out to Scott Anderson, our Heavy Diesel Fitter and Site Safety and Health Representative (SSHR) at Meandu Mine, for winning the 2024 Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference (QMIHSC) Health Program Award! Scott’s hard work and innovative approach have truly come to the forefront with his outstanding project that elevates safety through live particle detection and monitoring.
Scott’s award-winning project, “Using Live Particle Detection and Monitoring to Warn Mine Workers of Respirable Particulate Matter and Exposure to Hazards,” originated from a BUMA hazard report and partnered with @BreathSafe for advanced technology. The initiative features a mobile prototype for real-time monitoring of dust and CO2 levels in equipment operator cabs. This battery-operated system connects to a PC and presents data through a simple traffic light system, empowering our teams to make informed safety decisions and enhance workforce protection.
Scott’s achievement highlights the exceptional teamwork and commitment driving progress in mining safety. Congratulations again to Scott and everyone who participated in—your efforts are making a real difference in keeping our workforce safe!
