Burton
Bowen Coking Coal’s Burton Project, located 120 km west‑southwest of Mackay and 25 km north of Broadmeadow East in the Bowen Basin was a major greenfield development. BUMA Australia proudly delivered the project, in tandem with our work at the Broadmeadow East Coal Project. Awarded to us in April 2022, Burton was an expansion of the BME’s operation.

Bowen Coking Coal’s Burton Project is a greenfield development positioned 120 km west‑southwest of Mackay and around 25 km north of Broadmeadow East in the Bowen Basin, Queensland. The Burton Mine forms part of the broader Broadmeadow East (BME) Coal Project, originally awarded to BUMA Australia in April 2022, and represents a key expansion of BME’s operational footprint.

BUMA Australia operated at the Ellensfield and Plumtree pits, delivering the following key services:
- Statutory management of the mining operations
- Clearing, grubbing, and topsoil removal
- Drill and blast
- Load and haul of coal and waste
- Dump management
- Progressive rehabilitation works

At steady state, combined ROM Coal production was ~4.5 Mtpa which was processed at the Burton Coal Mine CHPP.
Beyond operational delivery, our team contributed to the wider community, by creating employment, supporting local initiatives, and driving a positive on-site culture.
